Missed a few days, Day 3

My apologies, I missed a few days due to the holidays. Here are my discoveries for the day.

Deliberacion by Juan Botero. This is actually one that i found a couple years ago. It is the first animated short that got me interested in 3d. It's the one that started it all!

The Mysterious Explorations of Jasper Morello cool animation style. British and Steampunk. Kind of dark and depressing, but very interesting aestheic none the less.

French Roast This one is quite quirky and cute. I like the character designs. It is done by Joubert.

Also looking to get The Kinematograph and Mary and Max

Okay Goodnight everyone.

Day 2

'Persepolis' was awesome. Definitely deserves to be on all the top animation lists. It has a very different feel from the typical Pixar, Miyazaki, or classic Disney that dominate most of these lists. Very powerful storyline, and the use of different styles of animation in different depths of the film was brilliant.

I was stumbling and found Will Wilson. A few of his paintings caught my eye including this, this and this. I think he is pretty strong as an illustrator and I love his mouse paintings.

Another discovery is some new Banksy that showed up in London recently. Banksy is a wonderful guerrilla artist who has become quite famous for his works in England.

Okay now I'm not usually one to share photography because I like too much of it, if I were to share with you all the photography that I liked, it would fill the pages of this blog. However, this I had to share. Ruedione is a graffiti artist, these photos however show very little of the graffiti art itself. The main focus is "being there." The photography is all black and white and very strong with lots of action and black silhouettes. Some of the best photography I've seen so far.

And the last thing for now is a little animation that i found. It's a pretty cool idea, animating things like fish and dragons to look like drops of ink in water.

Day 1 continued again..

Okay so I'm a bit of an insomniac.

I was just on twitter and Pixar posted a new link. I was a bit leery when I had first heard that 'Alice in Wonderland' was being redone but after viewing this gallery, I may be a bit interested. The set and character design looks pretty awesome. Now lets see what Tim Burton can do...

I also finally saw 'Up' last night, wonderful character design on Mr. Fredricksen and I am always amazed by Pixar's ability to create hair, especially on Ellie when she first appears in the film.

So I was looking at top animations lists online and one kept coming up named 'Persepolis' that I'd never heard of. I just got it and plan on watching it now. Goodnight again.

Day 1 cont...

Here are two more artists that I found.

Audrey Kawasaki
She is quite possibly one of my new favorite artists. Her work is described as erotic, a blend between Art Nouveau and Japanese Manga. She has a show up at the Jonathan Levine Gallery and I am very much looking forward to seeing it when I get back to the city.

Jack Morefield

His paintings are pretty interesting. Each is composed of many many little worms? of color. I use the term for lack of a better one. I think his work is definitely viewed best at a distance so I'd recommend going to the thumbnail gallery first. My two favorites of his are this and this due to the fact that they are very expressive.

Alright, due to the fact that it is 1:12 am, I am going to make a cup of tea and go to bed. Goodnight all.

Day 1

So here is my first blog. I had two main discoveries of the day.

Animation
There are interesting levels of depth and different styles in all the animations. All done by artist, Ola Schubert. My favorite by far is the H35787 teaser, unfortunately I can't find any progress on the film after 2006. I hope to someday see it finished.

Digital Art
Maggie Taylor creates images using a flatbed scanner and altering in Photoshop. The end result is a "surrealistic montage." Very cool.
